ON THE ISSUES
my priorities
safer streets
When my grandson’s best friend, Ryan Grantham Jr., was struck and killed by a car on Thurston Rd. I rallied the community to install a crosswalk with a rapid blinking traffic light. Our community deserves to be able to drive safely, walk safely, and bike safely in their own neighborhoods. We need more bike lanes with biker protections, accessible sidewalks, and more ways to protect the residents utilizing our streets.
access to essential services
We need to foster the relationship between the City of Rochester and Monroe County so that our residents can have access to the essential services that they need. In my role as Chief Community Engagement Officer for Monroe County, I’ve coordinated with County Legislators, City Council Members, and Community Members to set up job fairs and health fairs in neighborhoods across the city and county. I’ve worked to bring resources to underserved and marginalized areas of our community with County and City Departments providing those resources. We work better as a team to help the people who need it most.
Community Health and Wellness: Pharmacy, Access to Healthy Food, Physical, Mental, Financial, and Social
Rochester cannot thrive without bringing attention to our community’s health and wellness. We need to heal our young people’s generational traumas, provide medical care, ensure access to healthy food, and give our neighbors the financial literacy tools they need to succeed. When Walgreens pulled out of the 19th Ward leaving the residents without any nearby pharmacy, I teamed up with Mayor Malik Evans to create the Rochester Pharmacy Access Coalition and we worked hard to bring a new pharmacy to ensure our community had access to essential resources. Health and Wellness in my community is one of my passions and much of my community work is centered around these tenets. I am on the board of the Rochester Food Policy Council and Tru-Impact, an organization dedicated to mentoring and tutoring youth. I’m excited to bring my passion for health and wellness to the City Council.
